Shopify migration services

We move online stores to Shopify from other platforms: products, customers, orders, URLs, apps and integrations, with your current store selling until the switch. You work directly with the small Oslo team doing the work, and a like-for-like move can keep your design as it is.

Migration: Craft Commerce to Shopify

Fjordfiesta changed platform and kept what customers knew.

With its Craft Commerce setup being phased out, the Norwegian furniture maker needed a supported platform without rebuilding the storefront. We migrated it like-for-like to headless Shopify with Sanity, keeping the design and content as they were.Read the case study

What the work covers

Whichever platform you’re leaving, whether that’s Magento or Adobe Commerce, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, Craft Commerce or a custom build, six things decide how the move goes.

Search rankings and redirects

Customers, passwords and orders

What moves and what gets rebuilt

Part of your store What happens to it
Products, variants, images Move with transformation. Custom attributes map to metafields, and complex option sets may need restructuring.
Customers and addresses Move, along with tags and order associations. Passwords don’t: customers set a new one from an activation email.
Order history Moves as read-only records, with line items, prices and fulfillment history. Orders import after products and customers.
URLs and SEO metadata Mapped by hand onto Shopify’s fixed URL patterns, with a 301 redirect for every indexed URL.
Pages, blog and content Rebuilt in Shopify or in Sanity. Pages with no traffic or purpose can stay behind.
Category tree and navigation Rebuilt as Shopify collections and menus, with filters mapped to metafields, tags and product types.
Extensions and plugins Don’t run on Shopify. Each one becomes an app, a native feature or custom development, or is retired.
Integrations Rebuilt against Shopify’s webhooks and Admin API, and tested before launch.
Custom checkout logic Rebuilt as checkout extensions, which need Shopify Plus.

How a migration runs

Six phases, in this order. Nothing switches over until customers can complete an order on the new store.

  1. Discovery and planning

We audit your platform, catalog, extensions, integrations and checkout, then decide with you what migrates, what gets rebuilt and what retires. The scope, price and timeline come from this.

  2. Data preparation

We clean and map products, customers and orders, resolve products that exceed Shopify’s variant limits and build the redirect map.

  3. Shopify setup

We configure a non-public store, import products, customers and then orders, and check your top-selling products by hand.

  4. Storefront and features

We build the theme or headless storefront, recreate your pages and navigation and rebuild the custom features you’re keeping.

  5. Integration and testing

We reconnect your ERP, warehouse and marketing tools, test orders across payment methods, tax and shipping, and verify the redirects on staging.

  6. Launch and monitoring

We run the final sync, switch DNS and test live checkout. Then we watch crawl errors, rankings and data flow, and fill any redirect gaps that surface.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a Shopify migration cost?
Migrations start from $10,000. That covers a like-for-like move of one store: data, redirects, app replacements, testing and the cutover. A new design, integrations, B2B and multiple stores push it up. We agree the scope and price with you before work starts.
How long does a Shopify migration take?
A full storefront build typically takes around 12 weeks, followed by 4 weeks of close monitoring. A smaller move has its own scope and timeline, which we agree with you after discovery. Catalog size, integrations, custom features and data quality set the length.
Will we lose our search rankings?
Some movement in the first weeks is normal, but a well-run move shouldn't cost you rankings for good. Poorly executed redirects are what cost rankings, so every indexed URL gets a 301 to its new address, tested on staging before launch. We then monitor Search Console and add any redirect that was missed.
Can customer passwords be migrated?
No. Passwords can’t transfer because the platforms encrypt them differently. Customer records move, and customers get an account activation email to set a new password. We plan that communication with you before launch.
What data moves to Shopify?
Products, variants, images, customers, addresses, historical orders and inventory move with transformation, and custom attributes map to Shopify metafields. Pages, blog content, category trees and customer group pricing are rebuilt rather than imported.
Will the store go down during the migration?
We don’t take your store offline to build. It stays live until the DNS switch, which we schedule in a window you agree to. DNS changes can take 24 to 48 hours to propagate, so we test live checkout straight away and keep monitoring through that period.
Which platforms can you migrate from?
Moving from Magento, Adobe Commerce, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, Craft Commerce or a custom platform? The phases are the same. What differs is how your data exports and what your extensions do, which is what discovery is for.
Do we need Shopify migration experts, or can an app do it?
An import app can copy products, customers and orders. It won’t map every URL, rebuild your integrations, replace your extensions or test your checkout. If your store is simple, an app may be enough, and we’ll tell you so on the call.
Should we move to Shopify or Shopify Plus?
Not every store needs Plus. It tends to pay off with multiple stores, advanced B2B, custom checkout logic or integrations that need higher API limits. Compare them in our Shopify vs Shopify Plus guide, or see Shopify Plus development.
What happens after launch?
We stay on as your development team if you want us to, measuring results and agreeing the next improvements with you. You own the store and the code we build, so you can also hire your own developers or choose another partner.
